Chile – Calbuco Volcano

Authorities fear a new crater opening up on the Calbuco volcano, triggering a violent new eruption. There is the potential that the ash cloud could impede travel not only to Chile but also to nearby South American countries Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay. Airlines are watching this situation closely and some have begun providing waivers for travel that may be impacted. Travel-On is watching all travel in this area through the next week and will proactively notify travelers and provide reaccommodation as needed.

Paris’s Foreign Minister said that there will be an unprecedented level of security at Anzac Day ceremonies across Europe this weekend. She said security measures were “constantly” being reviewed after the arrest of a British teenager in connection with an alleged plan for an Anzac Day terror attack in Australia, one week before Australians across Europe gather to remember 100 years since the Gallipoli landings.

Q and A

Should I sign up for a frequent renter number if I only rent cars occasionally?

Obtaining membership in the frequent renter program of your favorite car rental vendor has many advantages, even for infrequent renters! While benefits vary between vendors and may range from reserved cars and partner programs to free days and upgrades, the biggest advantage is the ability to use expedited service lanes, automated kiosks, or even to skip the lines completely and head straight to the lot. Not only does this save you a good bit of time, but also allows you to skip the questions about insurance, GPSs, refueling, and other options, and have the reservation confirmed using the preferences in your membership profile. Status as a member may also convey some “benefit of the doubt” or waivers in uncomfortable situations. To decide which program or programs may be right for you, consider which vendors you use most often and which ones have tie-ins to your frequent flyer clubs or credit card loyalty programs.
