U.S. – Military Base ThreatSecurity conditions at U.S. military bases were raised Thursday night because of growing concern of a jihadist threat in the U.S. Rome – Airport FireFlight delays at Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport are expected to continue following a fire in Terminal 3 early May 7. Terminals 1, 2, and 5 are servicing all inbound and outbound flights, while Terminal 3 remained closed. Authorities claim that it will take several days for airport operations to fully normalize. In the meantime, flights have been cut by 50%. Philippines – Typhoon NoulTyphoon Noul entered the Philippine Sea May 7, and continues to track northwestward toward the Philippines. The system is carrying sustained winds of 115 mph and is expected to strengthen further as it approaches the country in the coming days. Dodong is predicted to turn slightly northward May 8, and will then move through Lamon Bay before making landfall as a powerful typhoon in Isabela Province on northeastern Luzon Island. Heavy rainfall and powerful wind gusts are expected. Depending on the storm’s final path, flight delays and cancellations are possible at Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport. U.S. – First Named StormTropical Depression Ana is tracking northwestward toward the coast of South and North Carolina. Ana could make landfall near Myrtle Beach, S.C. late May 10. However, there is some ambiguity in the storm’s track, and the system may remain offshore as it sharply tracks north-northeast toward Virginia on May 11. The National Weather Service has issued Tropical Storm Warnings from Charleston to Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Tropical Storm Watch advisories from Wilmington to Cape Lookout, N.C. The system will bring rainfall approaching 2-4 inches and potentially strong wind gusts to the Carolina coastline, May 8-10. SAS – Swedish Pilot StrikeSwedish pilots are set to go on strike from May 21st after negotiations between Scandinavian Airlines and the pilots’ union broke down. Once purchased, if a change or cancellation is made to the flight with the E+ seats, either by you or by the airline, the E+ cost will be refunded. However, the cost will not be refunded if you subsequently upgrade your flight or decide you want to sit in economy after all. Other airlines offering premium economy seating follow a similar policy.
