Large protests are planned for Sunday, August 16th, in major cities across Brazil, including Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Brasilia. In Rio de Janeiro the focal point of the protests will be Copacabana and in São Paulo the area around Avenida Paulista. Other areas may also be affected. Roads and public transport are likely to be disrupted. Take extra care, monitor local media, and follow the guidance of local authorities.

London – Tube Strike

London Tube workers are set to strike for 24 hours on August 25 and 27. The strike is likely to cause travel disruptions for most of the week.

Q and A

In the olden days I could get a refund of a non-refundable ticket for a medical reason with a doctor’s note. Is that still the case?

In the olden days, when non-refundable also meant non-changeable, that was indeed true. However, that practice was virtually eliminated when airlines began allowing the value of non-refundable tickets to be retained for future use, minus a change fee. Some airlines may reduce or waive the change fee with appropriate documentation. Acceptable documentation varies by airline, but typically includes emergency room or hospital documents rather than just a doctor’s note.
