Baltimore – Rallies Continue

Large street rallies are likely to continue nightly in Baltimore, MD, including along W North Avenue, outside City Hall, and in the downtown area. Large contingents of police and National Guard personnel remain deployed in West Baltimore and Downtown Baltimore. Increased security can be expected through at least May 5. A nightly curfew remains in effect 2200-0500 through May 5. A citywide state of emergency is also in effect. Significant traffic disruptions can be expected when crowds march through West Baltimore and on major streets between West Baltimore and City Hall, which has been the site of repeated protests. More vandalism and looting cannot be ruled out. Representatives from the Black Lawyers for Justice have confirmed plans for a May 2 protest at 1400 EDT at City Hall, followed by a march through Downtown Baltimore. The May 2 rally will likely be very large, and the possible presence of demonstrators from outside Baltimore could result in security problems.
