Hawaii – Dengue Fever Continues

Health officials continue to detect additional cases of locally acquired dengue fever on the big island of Hawaii. So far, authorities have confirmed 117 local dengue infections since mid-September. The majority of cases have occurred near Captain Cook, Kailua-Kona, Naaleha, Hilo, and Pahoa. Dengue fever is not endemic to Hawaii, but mosquitoes capable of transmitting the virus can be found on many of the islands. These mosquitoes can transmit the virus to others when infected travelers bring the virus to Hawaii from other areas.
