American Policy Change Clarification

It has been widely reported in the press that American Airlines has instituted a new policy whereby “Passengers can no longer hold reservations on American flights for 24 hours without putting money down. Instead, American Airlines is implementing the more common policy that allows passengers to cancel a purchased ticket within 24 hours of booking for a full refund.” What the articles don’t explain is that this is for reservations booked directly with American Airlines only. Travel-On can still place an American reservation on hold without payment up to the limits of the fare rules (usually 24 hours). As always the fare are not guaranteed until the ticket is purchased.
