Do I have any recourse if I miss my flight due to long lines at airport security?

Not officially, no. Neither the TSA, airport, nor airline are responsible if you fail to allow enough time to get through security and subsequently miss your flight. For now, the airlines have been fairly accommodating about re-booking travelers who miss flights due to security lines. However, they are under no obligation to do so, and you must wait for the next available flight, which could be quite a while. If you are still in line when the boarding announcement is made for your flight you can try asking each person ahead of you if you can go in front of them. You may get slightly closer to the front this way, but don’t expect it to make a big difference. Likewise, pleading your case to the TSA agents is unlikely to result in a move in your favor. The best way to avoid this situation is to heed the request to allow 2 hours for security on domestic flights and 3 hours for departures from Chicago O’Hare, Los Angeles, or San Francisco, as well as all international flights. Membership in a trusted traveler program such as TSA Pre-Check, Clear, or Global Entry is also a big help.
