Is there a limit to the number of times a ticket can be exchanged?

While there is no limit to the number of times a ticket can be exchanged, in almost all cases the ticket will expire one year from the date of original issue. Airline policies vary as to whether the travel must occur within that year or if the ticket must be exchanged within that year, but the new travel dates could be later. For example, let’s say you bought a ticket on Jan 1, 2016 for travel in March. That trip is postponed to April so the ticket was exchanged. The April trip cancels so you applied the ticket towards travel in November. In November you cancelled again and the trip is rescheduled for January 2017. Some airlines would allow you to use the ticket to travel in January 2017 so long as the exchange is done by December 31, 2016, and other airlines would not.
