Italy – Aviation Staff Groups to Strike May 14 Nationwide

Pilots and flight attendants for Alitalia-Cityliner are planning to stage a 24-hour strike May 14 at airports across Italy. Unless averted, the industrial action will probably cause flight delays and cancellations across the airline’s network, though severe disruptions are unlikely. Alitalia-Cityliner is a regional subsidiary of Alitalia-CAI, operating short haul flights. Flight attendants for EasyJet will strike for four hours 1000-1400 May 14. This work stoppage may also cause disruptions along the airline’s network. In addition, ground staff at Milan’s airports, including Milan Malpensa and Milan Linate, will conduct a 24-hour strike May 14. Although these strikes will result in air transport disruptions in parts of the country, it is unlikely that they will be crippling as Italian law requires that a minimum level of transportation services be maintained during labor actions.
