Japan – Rubella Epidemic Surpasses 10,000 Cases

Health officials have reported an ongoing rubella epidemic in Japan, which had caused 10,102 cases so far. Osaka Prefecture reported the highest number of cases in the most recent week of tracking, followed by the Tokyo metropolitan area, Kanagawa Prefecture, and Hyogo Prefecture. Ensure you have been vaccinated against or are immune to rubella before travel. People born before 1957 generally acquired immunity to rubella, measles, and mumps in childhood. People born after 1957 and those who did not have the disease as children are immune if they received a two-dose series of the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine.
