Brazil – Mass Protests Likely to Continue through at Least June 30

Protests organized by members of the Free Pass Movement (MPL) are likely to occur in major cities nationwide through at least June 30, when the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Confederations Cup tournament ends. Demonstrations are likely at scheduled soccer matches through June 30 in host cities, which include Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Fortaleza, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, and Salvador. Sporadic rallies are possible in central plazas or in front of municipal or state government buildings in large cities. Violence is possible at these demonstrations and demonstrators have reportedly vandalized businesses and parked vehicles near previous protests. Expect transportation disruptions, road closures, and heavy security surrounding rally sites and stadiums.
