I heard it is now possible to apply directly to TSA Pre-Check. How does that work?

Yes, beginning on December 4th, the TSA began accepting applications to its Pre-Check program. Previously membership could be obtained only via Global Entry or by applying to Pre-Check through a frequent flyer program. Under the new application option U.S. citizens and greencard holders can apply online and visit an enrollment center to provide biometric data. There is an $85 non-refundable application fee. Selected individuals will be notified in 2-3 weeks and given a membership number, which needs to be added to your Travel-On profile. There is a catch – right now the only enrollment center is in Indianapolis. There will be a second one opening at Dulles soon.
