If I’ve left my car parked at a surface lot at an airport affected by a winter storm, will the lot operator dig my car out or must I find a shovel and do it myself when I arrive?

That depends on the lot operator. Most of the third-party airport satellite lots will dig vehicles out, however, these surface lots can hold hundreds (or even thousands) of vehicles so it isn’t a quick process. Some lots allow travelers to call or email with their parking spot number and approximate time of arrival. Have patience, and remember a generous tip to those doing the labor is much appreciated! If you park on an open lot or on top of a parking garage operated by the airport authority, you could find assistance less readily available. An informal survey of random airports yielded a consistent answer of “if you need assistance we will send someone to help free of charge.”
