I’m thinking more about hotel safety more these days. What are some common hotel safety tips?
Great question! There are quite a few very simple steps guests can take to help ensure their personal safety:
- If your room number is spoken during checkin, request a different room
- Request a room on the 3rd-6th floors that is away from, but in view of, the elevator
- Once in the room call the front desk from your cell phone and request your room number using your name if it is given, request a different room
- Place a bandaid over the peephole in the door
- Keep the “do not disturb” sign on the door at all times
- Verify that all door and window locks work correctly every time your return to your room
- If you “lose” your room key, switch rooms
- Leave a light and the TV on when leaving the room
- Call in your breakfast order instead of hanging the form on the doorknob where it advertizes the number of people in the room
- Do not open the door to anyone you aren’t expecting and whose identity you haven’t verified
- Never give your credit card or other personal information to someone calling from the “front desk”
