India – Super Cyclone Phailin

Cyclone Phailin is poised to strike India’s east coast near Gopalpur on Oct 12th with sustained winds of 185 mph. The equivalent of a category 5 hurricane, and the size of Katrina, the storm is expected to be catastrophic. Very heavy rainfall is forecast through Oct. 13. Flash flooding may occur, and landslides are possible. Phailin will also bring storm surge of an estimated 5-6.5 feet to coastal areas, likely inundating low-lying areas. Flight disruptions are possible and train disruptions are possible.
