India – Tropical Cyclone Helen

Tropical Cyclone Helen is moving northwestward through the Bay of Bengal toward the Krishna-Godavari Basin off the coast of Andhra Pradesh State. Helen is projected to become a severe cyclonic storm before making landfall near the city of Vijayawada on Nov. 22. Approximately 25,000 people have been evacuated.

Torrential rainfall is forecast in areas close to and north of the center of circulation through Nov. 23. Flash flooding is likely, and landslides are possible. Very strong winds will cause significant damage to lightly constructed buildings in coastal areas and may uproot trees, which could bring down power lines.
