Ireland and United Kingdom – Windstorm in Ireland and Southern UK
A deep low pressure system developing over the North Atlantic is predicted to affect the British Isles, bringing winds up to 80 mph and heavy rain to Ireland, Wales, and southern England beginning late Oct. 27. The system could uproot trees, down power lines, and cause structural damage, as well as flooding. If the low moves south across the Channel, then strong and potentially damaging winds may reach the coasts of France, Belgium, and the Netherlands on Oct. 28. Flight, rail, and maritime disruptions along coastal areas of these countries are likely if this scenario materializes. Strong winds will likely disrupt services at airports in affected areas, including those serving London, Bristol, Exeter, Cornwall, Bournemouth, and Cardif. High winds and rough seas are likely to affect ferry and additional maritime services.
