Japan – Very High Temperatures Forecast to Continue

A major heat wave is continuing to affect much of Japan and the Japan Meteorological Agency has forecasted higher-than-average temperatures through at least Aug. 21. At least nine people died from heat-related. Very high temperatures may warp rail tracks and force passenger and freight trains to operate at reduced speed, particularly in southern Honshu. Additionally, radiational heating has produced unstable atmospheric conditions and strong storms have caused flooding and landslides in some parts of the country.
