Spain – Rail Strike Dec 20

Employees of the Railway Infrastructure Administration and the Spanish National Rail Network plan to stage a 24-hour strike on Dec. 20. Spanish law requires that specified minimum levels of service be maintained during industrial actions in the transport sector; hence, planned walk-outs are likely to result in only low to moderate rail travel disruptions. RENFE will reportedly operate 65 percent of its medium distance services and 72 percent of its long distance services during the work stoppages. Local train traffic will likely average 75 percent of normal service levels during peak hours (0600-0900, 1330-1530, and 1830-2030) and 50 percent during other periods. The scheduled walk-outs may result in residual disruptions that extend beyond the time of the work stoppage itself. The actual impact of the strike may vary by location and time of day.
