Taiwan – Anti-Nuclear Demonstrations in Major Cities

A coalition of environmental groups plans to hold demonstrations in several Taiwanese cities March 8 to protest the country’s continued reliance on nuclear power. In Taipei, protesters will march from Ding-Hao Plaza and the National Taiwan University before converging outside the Presidential Office on Ketagalan Boulevard (map) at approximately 1530. Similar demonstrations will occur in Kaohsiung, Taichung, and Taitung. Major traffic disruptions are likely since each demonstration will probably draw thousands of protesters. Smaller demonstrations could take place in other areas around the country, but they are less likely to cause disruptions.
