Taiwan – Power Rationing
Taiwan’s government says rotational power rationing could be implemented nationwide as early as May due to an ongoing water shortage, which has affected electricity generation. If power rationing is implemented, industrial consumers using more than 1,000 kilowatts will likely see their electricity supplies cut by up to 15 percent. Residential and industrial users consuming less than 1,000 kilowatts consumers could face 50-minute power cut on a rotational basis. There will be no interruption of services to critical infrastructure such as transportation. The government has implemented tight water restrictions across much of the island in recent months amid rapidly receding water levels in reservoirs. In addition to the ongoing water shortage, many power plants will carry out their scheduled annual maintenance from May to mid-June, which could affect power supplies by 3.31 million kilowatts.
