Thailand – Anti-Government Protests Continue

Anti-government demonstrators have consolidated their camps to one site within Lumphini Park in Pathum Wan, Bangkok, but continue to launch near-daily marches from that venue. The main target of the protests is government buildings and businesses owned by caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s family. However, anti-government supporters have also staged marches to various embassies and the offices of foreign news agencies, in a bid to keep international attention on their cause. The protest camps had been subjected to a series of minor bombings and other attacks; in response, the military has now set up security checkpoints around high-risk targets, including Lumphini Park, as well as some government and judicial buildings. Tensions remain high.
