U.S. – Hurricane Irma

The storm is the strongest hurricane on record in the Atlantic Ocean and substantial damage is possible on any land masses in its path, despite a projected weakening trend as it approaches the southeastern US. Models indicate an increased likelihood for landfall near Miami on Sept. 10 and/or the coasts of Georgia or South Carolina on Sept. 11-12. It is too early to determine if these projections are accurate. Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina have declared States of Emergency. Mandatory evacuations have been ordered in several Florida counties with more expected as the storm draws near. Airlines have already cancelled flights.
